Area with a slope equal to or greater than 25 percent (12 degrees).
For general mapping purposes.
Slope was mathmatically derived from 2005-2007 LIDAR based DEM data using ArcGIS raster processing software. The raster output was converted back to vector data and was "smoothed" to remove the "sawtooth" edges.

Slopes are registered to a 15x15 foot DEM derived from the 2004-2007 Metro regional LIDAR flights.
3x3 foot bare earth DEM derived from the 2004-2007 lidar point data was resampled into a 15x15 foot DEAM using cubic convolution. The tiles for the derived DEM data where then assembled to a regional raster mosaic.

Percent slope was calculated on the regional 15x15 foot DEM. The resulting raster file contained slope data from 0% to >25% slope.

The continuous slope raster was re-classed into the categories 0-7%, 7-25%, and 25% and greater

The 3 class raster file was converted to vector data and a multi-step generalization process was introduced to smooth jagged edges formed between individual raster cells.

An additional smoothing algorithm (PAEK) was run on the vector data to further enhance the data.

A new data layer consisting of only the 25% and Greater was extracted from the 3 class vector layer.
